In this course, we will examine the sketching styles and techniques of Old Master artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Testa Pietro and Rembrandt.
Sketches are defined as rough, unfinished, thumbnails, giving an idea, perfect for use in todays Sketching journals.
Sketching Nature presents its own set of challenges, distinct from that of Urban landscapes, add in time constraints and it becomes imperative to learn how to develop your own shorthand to represent form, light and shade.
In the first half of this course we will study Old Master drawings to learn how they massed in the natural forms with pen and ink to make their sketches. The second half of the course will teach you how to shorthand in watercolour. The last 2 classes will be held in the Singapore Botanical Gardens where you can apply your new techniques.
